Satellite Tool Kit / Precision
Orbit Determination System (STK/PODS)
PODS is a COTS software package by
Van Martin Systems available as an add-on to AGI’s STK. PODS is an
integrated module designed to process spacecraft tracking data and
determine spacecraft orbits and related parameters. STK/PODS can
process tracking data from a variety of sources, including those
gathered by ground antennas (e.g., angles, range, range rate), Tracking
and Data Relay Satellite System (TDRSS) data (e.g.,
satellite-to-satellite/ satellite-to-station relay data), and Global
Positioning System (GPS) position data collected by GPS receivers.
Additionally, STK/PODS now includes a Simulate Observations tool which
can generate simulated tracking data between ground stations and
satellites.
STK/PODS is seamlessly integrated
with STK. The module uses state-of-the-art estimation algorithms to
determine spacecraft orbits based on observation data from ground- and
space-based sensors. STK/PODS uses an optimized Bayesian weighted
least-squares estimation algorithm with high-fidelity environmental
modeling to determine spacecraft orbits and related parameters.
STK/PODS capabilities and associated data are implemented as extensions
to the existing STK scenario, satellite, and facility object classes.
PODS is currently being used by
the Landsat-7 mission and is considered a COTS alternative to
stand-alone orbit determination software like GTDS. STK and PODS
provide a complete flight dynamics package for both analysis and
routine operations.
